What do missionaries do on Halloween night? Watch a movie at the church and go home early...
|Halloween Night activity|
Once in a while a week just kind of isn't good, it isn't bad, it just... is. That was this week, it wasn't predominantly anything, it was an equal parts mixture of good and bad things. Matt Smith describes it perfectly:
“The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.”
Often enough you run into people who have preconceived notions about you, before you even talk with them they decide they do not like you and don't want anything to do with what you have to say. We ran into a lot of those kinds of people this week. People who will yell at you for an hour straight, telling you that you are wrong, that the testimony that you have means nothing, and that hurts. People, even members, tend to forget that missionaries are still people too, that we live and breathe and that we feel the pain that comes with being rejected over and over and over again.
When Joseph Smith was in Liberty Jail (what a great oxymoron they named a jail after a word that means to be free) he cried out to his Father in Heaven and was comforted with "My son, peace be unto thy soul; thine adversity and thing afflictions shall be but a small moment; And then, if thou endure it well, God shall exalt thee on high."
Sometimes it's hard to be told "no" at every door, by every person. But sometimes someone says yes, once in a while people will say, "Come in!" and they will tell you that they don't normally answer the door, or that they are usually the mean person who tells the missionaries to go away. Except today they decided not to, today they decided that they wanted to learn. That doesn't mean that something will come of it, but even if nothing happens, at least I gained more teaching experience. At this point I am a pro at teaching lesson one!
I pray that you may all have more good things than bad things, and that you will laugh more than you cry!
All my love to you,
Sister Megan Monson
